Crystal Palace have moved into fifth place in the Premier League table thanks to Jeffery Schlupp's brilliant second half goal at home to Eddie Howe's Bournemouth, who are now without a win in more than a month.

The Eagles even had one hand tied behind their back for the majority of the match when Mamadou Sakho was sent off for a high foot on Adam Smith, being shown the red card mostly for the follow-through after initially winning the ball.

It was a first-half that wasn't always easy on the eye, but Bournemouth had a bee in their bonnet after the break and were only denied an opening goal after an outstanding last-ditch interception from Martin Kelly.

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson: "We won the second half comfortably, but not by enough goals. I didn't have high hopes because I knew they would defend well. They came out deserved winners. "Goals change things. It's different at 0-0. At 1 - 0 and 2-0 down other factors come in.

It became like a training ground routine as chances for Crystal Palace on the counter-attack became fewer and fewer, although Wilfried Zaha did see a soft penalty shout waved away by referee Anthony Taylor.

The hosts eventually made one of the counters count when substitute Jeffrey Schlupp finished off a solo run with a powerful finish that went through Aaron Ramsdale, with Palace taking the lead from their first shot on target.

Bournemouth continued to struggle to break through the hosts' defences as the clock ticked on, and Roy Hodgson's side were able to hold on for all three points to pick up back to back wins for the first time since October.

Crystal Palace

Key Talking Point

It's a game which could have gone either way between two teams with a negative goal difference before kick-off, but Crystal Palace were given a mountain to climb when Mamadou Sakho was sent off inside the opening 20 minutes.

It was a decision that would've been harsh for the fans at Selhurst Park, but Roy Hodgson's side were actually spurred on after Sakho's dismissal and they had the best moments of the first-half, especially through Wilfried Zaha and Jordan Ayew on the counter-attack.

The Eagles found themselves on the back foot after the break much more, but Crystal Palace's defenders were able to keep Vicente Guaita's goal well protected and even made the visitors pay for their wasted possession with their first of just two shots on target.

Bournemouth

Key Talking Point

The visitors might have had a man advantage for most of the game, but Bournemouth arguably found it even harder to make the most of their natural counter-attacking style as Crystal Palace sat even deeper.

Things improved after half-time as the Cherries turned the match into a bit of a training routine, with Crystal Palace having the odd chance on the counter-attack.

But it actually proved to be their biggest downfall, with Jefferey Schlupp's strike on the break allowing Crystal Palace to sit even deeper in the last 15 minutes and soak up pressure with ease until the final whistle.

It's still his first season in the Premier League since joining from Club Brugge, but Danjuma had moments of quality which showed exactly why he's a player with Champions League experience, and one who's scored away at Atlético Madrid at that.

The 22-year-old was Bournemouth's biggest (and for large chunks of the game, only) threat going forward, and the visitors lacked any real penetration in the final third from the moment he was replaced by Ryan Fraser.
