It is unrealistic that spectators sit in the stands at the start of the season in mid-September. Politicians had already clearly rejected the plans of the German Football League. In Berlin, major events with more than 5000 people are currently banned until October 24th. A return of many viewers would only be possible in the first place after the Senate has relaxed the situation accordingly.

Most recently, “Bild am Sonntag” reported that Hertha would forego spectators altogether until the end of October if some fans returned. This is now allegedly no longer planned, as the club prefers to rely on its fans at home games despite high costs and a possible loss-making business. According to the report, it would not be financially worthwhile if there were only 5,000 spectators in the arena, which can seat more than 74,000 people, at the beginning.
