Steve Cooper has revealed Jordon Garrick and Kristoffer Peterson both needed game time following their outings for Swansea City's Under-23s against Cardiff City this week.

Peterson did not feature in the 1-0 win over Preston last weekend while Garrick has not played any minutes for the Swans this term.

The first team duo both started for Jon Grey's side who demolished the young Bluebirds 5-1 in their Professional Development League season opener at Landore on Monday.

Swedish winger Peterson struck the home side's second goal while academy product Garrick bagged the third as the Swans put their rivals to the sword.

And Cooper has revealed the pair needed to get more minutes under their belts.

"Jordon hasn't missed any training, but we have had to manage him a little bit with a sore groin. He needed the minutes," said Cooper.

"Kris Peterson was a little bit later coming into pre-season for quarantine reasons, so he was exactly the same, that's all it was, nothing to do with the opposition.

"It was the fact that it was a game on a good day, and it was at home so it was very convenient."

Others who have made their first team debuts under Cooper - including Tivonge Rushesha and Cameron Evans - featured in the emphatic triumph over Cardiff.

And Cooper says the club are continuously searching to discover the next talent that can make the grade at senior level.

"The boys who played in it were better for it. The likes of Cam Evans, Dan Williams and Oli Cooper, they're training with us every day, but it's really important those young players still get games and we've got to make sure we've got the right programme for them because we're all talking to see who the next one is going to be, that breaks through," he added.

"We're very happy with the young players and we want to give them as much opportunities as we can."
