Bale has rejoined Spurs on loan from Real Madrid after seven years away from the London club.

But an injury means it may be a little while before Wales fans and Spurs admirers get to see him in action.

Spurs said in a statement: "Gareth sustained a knee injury whilst playing for Wales on international duty earlier this month and this together with La Liga’s later start compared to the Premier League means he has had a limited pre-season.

"We currently anticipate that he will be match fit after October’s international break."

Ryan Giggs' Wales side have three games coming up in the next month.

They face England in a friendly at Wembley on October 8, before a UEFA Nations League double header away to Republic of Ireland on October 11 and Bulgaria on October 14.

However, we could still see Bale in action for Wales during those matches if he has recovered from injury by then. The Cardiff-born winger was not fully match fit when he featured for the first 45 minutes of Wales' 1-0 Nations League win over Finland this month, but still featured in Giggs' plans.

"Gareth has had the least amount of football out of everyone so it was always the plan to give him 45 minutes, or if he felt good, an hour."

As for a (second) Spurs debut, it's looking most likely to be against West Ham in mid October.

Tottenham are away to Bale's former club Southampton on Sunday, September 20, before a trip to Leyton Orient in the Carabao Cup third round on Tuesday, September 22.

Jose Mourinho's men then face Shkendija away in the Europa League third qualifying round on Thursday, September 24.

That is followed by a home match against Newcastle United in the Premier League on Sunday, September 27, before they take on Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday, October 3.

So it looks like Bale could make his debut in Tottenham's first match after the international break - on Saturday, October 17 - at home to West Ham United.
