Jordan Jones can be a " big help" to Rangers , says manager Steven Gerrard, after the winger impressed in a resounding victory over Rangers then had the chance to restore their five-goal advantage as Jermain Defoe saw a sight of goal, but his close- range strike was gathered well by

The Northern Ireland international and Kilmarnock winger Jordan Jones had been a target for Rangers and he has described it as 'the worst times in Jones , 23, is happy with life at Killie but much more experienced players have had their heads turned by the Ibrox giants. And the Northern Irish cap

Kirk Broadfoot reckons Jordan Jones has the tank and the trickery to lead Galatasaray a merry dance in their Europa League foot race.

The winger had looked to be on his way out of Rangers only for Steven Gerrard to open the door for him after two stunning displays.

Jones was given the final 20 minutes in last week’s 4-0 rout of Willem II before grabbing his first Light Blues goal – plus an assist – in a 5-1 mauling of Motherwell.

The 25-year-old has played his way into Gerrard’s plans and former Kilmarnock team-mate Broadfoot wouldn’t be surprised to see him unleashed against the Turkish giants on Thursday night.

Jones has long been linked with a move to Ibrox and Rangers ’ interest does not appear to have waned despite Gerrard’s appointment in May. However, the former England captain is said to face competition for the Kilmarnock winger ’ s signature from a string of clubs – with Derby, Hull City and Preston

That’s because he considers Jones a big-game hunter whose blistering pace and bag of tricks mean he’ll fancy his chances against anyone tasked with shackling him.

Rangers enjoy home advantage, knowing Fatih Terim’s side stand in the way of a money-spinning third season in the group stage.

Broadfoot said: “Nothing fazes him and if he is thrown in against Galatasaray then I am no doubt he will be fine.

“He would also cause Galatasaray problems with his pace and trickery, I am in no doubt of that.

“I know from Kilmarnock it was a case of the bigger the game, the better for JJ.

“He put in some big, brilliant performances against Rangers and Celtic when he was at Kilmarnock.

“I remember a goal he scored at Celtic that was a great move.

“Jordan loves the big stage and if he gets the chance on Thursday then there is no doubt he would be in his element and would be a big, big player for Rangers.”

Broadfoot knows what Jones has in his locker, having spent two seasons sharing a Rugby Park dressing room with him.

And the 36-year-old believes the Galatasaray backline – or any other for that matter – would find it hard to stop him at full throttle.

He said: “I know any defender would hate playing against him.

“I saw it in training because he has that raw pace that leaves defenders on edge.

“JJ is so quick. I don’t think people realise how quick he is. I would say he is just as quick with the ball at his feet as he is without it, which is an asset in itself.

“When we were at Kilmarnock a lot of teams set up differently to try to stop Jordan because of his pace. He suited us at Killie because we played with a medium to low block and tried to hit on the counter attack. Jordan was vital to that system because he is a ball carrier and would just get us up the park with his raw pace.

Willem II 0-4 Rangers: Kent stars in Europa League qualifier win Inspired by the excellent Ryan Kent, who scored and had two assists, a play-off against Galatasaray in Glasgow next week was comfortably secured by Rangers. They now stand just 90 minutes away from a third successive season in the Europa League group stage. Aside from prestige, the £2.5million of UEFA prize money on offer for qualification would be very welcome as Scottish football faces up to the absence of fans in grounds for the foreseeable future.Kent won the penalty that was converted by James Tavernier before netting himself prior to the break.

And like the Easter Road incident it proved a decisive call as Kilmarnock grabbed the lead.

“We defended deep but he would set off on a run and before we knew it, we would have a free-kick up on the edge of the box. He was brilliant at that.”

Northern Ireland international Jones may not have commanded the transfer fees of Ryan Kent and Ianis Hagi, having signed a pre-contract agreement with Rangers in January of last year.

But he would offer an explosive alternative in the final third as Gerrard’s side prepare for a one-off tie rather than a two-legged affair.

Broadfoot said: “Kent and Hagi are top players but JJ can add something different.

“He is probably that old- fashioned winger type that just keeps running at you. No matter if you take it off him four times out of five he will keep coming at you.

“He knows he has that raw defence and trickery to cause any defence problems.”

The defender knows what it takes to make it at Ibrox, having spent five years lining up for the club.

And he believes that his old team-mate has shown he has the mental strength to do so too.

Jones was slaughtered 13 months ago after he got himself sent off in a 2-0 Old Firm defeat and injured in the process, derailing his Light Blues career as he waited four-and-a-half months for another game.

He was then told he could go last season but kept plugging away, so much so that now there seems to be light at the end of a long and dark tunnel.

Broadfoot said: “Jordan has that self-belief but top players have to have that, especially at Rangers or Celtic. If you don’t have that then you will crumble.

“JJ has the mentality to play for Rangers. He has shown that because he has taken criticism and he has been out for the team for a long time but he has come back in and made his mark.

“He has dealt with that and I know he won’t get too carried away when the praise comes either.

“Jordan is also a top guy and player. Around the dressing room he is a good professional and a great player to have. He is a real players’ player and even if he wasn’t playing, he would still get behind the boys and the team.

“That is important in any team, to have characters like that, because it gives you a good team spirit.”

Indeed, Broadfoot believes Rangers are now starting to see the Jones who was tipped for big things on arrival last summer.

He added: “You could always see he was going to go to that next level. He is a top guy and it is great to see him make an impact over the last couple of games.

“I read Gerrard saying the door was open for him and I really hope Jordan can kick on there because I am in no doubt he has everything you need to make a real impact at Rangers. Rangers will need to use their squad, especially if they make the group stage of the Europa League again.

“They will need their squad because Rangers will be doing all they can to challenge Celtic domestically as well.”
