West Ham keen on Slavia Prague ' s Vladimir Coufal to fill right-back gap. The Guardian.

Coufal is a vastly experienced operator with eight senior Czech Republic international caps, as was part of the team that beat England during Euro 2020 qualification.

The 28-year-old is also a former teammate of current Hammer, Tomáš Souček, who signed a permanent deal at the London Stadium in August following a successful loan spell.

Coufal has won two Czech top-flight titles since joining Slavia in 2018, and recently signed a new contract for the capital city club.

The experienced right-back has made a strong start to this season – making eight appearances and scoring once (whoscored) across club and country.

Whilst a fee is yet to be agreed, it is clear to see why Moyes would want to sign long term cover for Fredericks, as well as an initial injury replacement.

During Sunday’s 4-0 victory over Wolves, the 27-year-old full-back, who was signed from Fulham, had to go off shortly after half-time and was replaced by 20-year-old Ben Johnson.

Whilst Johnson may be a long term prospect, he is probably not ready to be thrust into first-team duties just yet, especially with current Premier League leaders Leicester City up next.
