It’s not spoken about much, if at all, but it’s become a recurring – and unwanted – visitor throughout all these years of domestic dominance.

The more they win together, the more interest there is in ripping them apart. The more some of them might even start to convince themselves they really do belong somewhere else, doing something bigger and better.

In more normal times, it only stays until the end of August when the transfer market shuts down and a sense of reality can be restored.

But the ongoing global pandemic changed all that, just as it’s altered almost everything else about our daily lives.

For manager Neil Lennon, Monday’s midnight deadline cannot come and go quickly enough. When it does, and in an instant, a sense of certainty and focus will be returned to his inner sanctum

Before boarding the team charter to Bosnia yesterday lunchtime ahead of tonight’s Europa League play-off with Sarajevo, Lennon spoke of his determination to keep his squad intact no matter what the next few days may bring.

The 10 free agents Celtic could look to sign before January

The 10 free agents Celtic could look to sign before January The summer transfer window may have come and gone but it doesn’t mean Celtic can’t still add to their squad before the madness begins once again in the New Year. The Hoops made six signings in recent months and have dropped just two points out of a possible 27 in their opening nine league games, trailing rivals Rangers, who have played a game more, by one point. Vasilios Barkas, Albian Ajeti, Shane Duffy, David Turnbull, Moi Elyounoussi and Diego Laxalt all made the move to Celtic Park, with a number of players leaving on free transfers and also on loan. However, Neil Lennon still has the option to make more additions before January’s window opens, through the free-agent market.

Decent window for Celts HH. Exclusive Interview: Celtic 's Mohamed Elyounoussi - Player of the Month!

And the message was welcomed inside the dressing room by one of the key players who has already committed himself to the cause way beyond Monday’s late night scramble.

Mohamed Elyounoussi will most certainly be going nowhere, having signed up for the entirety of this potentially historic 10-in-a-row campaign on loan from Southampton.

And, with more than a nod to the elephant yesterday, the Norwegian winger admitted he too will be counting down the hours until Lennon’s squad is safely forced back into lockdown.

Asked yesterday if some of his team mates may have taken an eye off the ball as a result of the extended transfer market, Elyounoussi said: “That’s just part of football.

“It is how it’s going to be, if you do well then there are going to be rumours and if you don’t then there can also be rumours you’re going to be leaving.

“But that’s all part of it. I’m not using too much energy to think about it – whatever happens, happens – but I’m happy with the players we have right now.

“It will be better when the window closes and we can focus even more on the rest of the season.

20 players Celtic could possibly target in pre-contract January deals

20 players Celtic could possibly target in pre-contract January deals Celtic managed to bring in six players during the summer transfer window. AC Milan left-back Diego Laxalt was the final addition, arriving on a season-long loan deal. The Uruguayan joins Vasilios Barkas, Albian Ajeti, Shane Duffy, Moi Elyounoussi and David Turnbull through the door at Celtic Park, and the Hoops’ recruitment team will more than likely be turning their attention to the January window. The turn of the year also gives the club the opportunity to explore pre-contract agreement deals with players who are out of contract at the end of the 2020/21 season.

CELTIC earned revenge overe CFR Cluj in the Europa League. Just six weeks ago, Neil Lennon's Bhoys were dumped out of the Champions League by the Romanian side, Edouard and Elyounoussi ensured there was no repeat performance tonight.

“We have a strong squad now and I am very happy with it. But this question you have to ask the people above me.

“I’m very happy with the players beside me, their personalities and their qualities. I don’t know, it’s up to the manager if he wants to bring in new players. It’s part of football, players leaving. Of course I’d like my team-mates to stay. I’m happy with the players here.

“You want to have the best players and they are here.”

That it’s not been a sure footed start to the European campaign is beyond dispute. Champions League access has been denied by Ferencvaros and it took Elyounoussi’s last-minute intervention in Latvia to see off Riga last week.

In fact, the winger’s recent return to full fitness and top form has come as a timely shot in the arm for Lennon, which was underlined again at the weekend when he wrapped up an impressive 3-0 win over Hibs.

It was a performance which the manager described as Celtic’s best of the season so far.

No wonder the 26-year-old could hardly wait to skip on board yesterday’s flight.

He went on: “All of us are feeling good. We had a good team performance on Sunday, so that is something we can bring into this game.

“Defensively, we looked strong while offensively we created a lot of chances. We scored three goals. We all looked sharp.

Four Championship clubs keen on loan move for Wilson

Four Championship clubs keen on loan move for Wilson Harry Wilson is the subject of interest from four different Championship clubs, according to the Telegraph‘s John Percy on Twitter. The Welshman is out of favour at Liverpool and there is still time for him to secure an exit before Friday’s EFL transfer deadline. Percy reports that Derby County, Nottingham Forest, Cardiff City and Norwich City are all keen on a loan move for Wilson. The 23-year-old has already enjoyed a productive spell at Derby back in 2018/19, scoring 18 times in all competitions.

But Celtic are said to only be willing to sell Dembele if they are able to sign an adequate replacement. Hoops legend Chris Sutton waded in on the future of the 22-year-old and his Twitter activity this morning, stating Celtic should bite the bullet and let him leave. Moussa Dembele left Celtic training

“It’s a joy for me to be part of a team with so many creative players. Absolutely.

“But I’m also happy I am not the manager having to pick the starting eleven. We have so many talents and great players, both in the starting eleven and on the bench.

“You look at the players he can bring in and there is a lot of quality.

“In the end we are going to need the whole squad for the games we’ll face this season.

It will be a massive season for us, we are going to need the whole squad.

“It’s nice to have so many good players – and it is also healthy competition.”

The latest addition – £3m new boy David Turnbull – set up Elyounoussi’s latest strike at the weekend after coming off the bench at half-time.

The Norwegian expects big things from him over the months ahead.

But, for the next 24 hours at least, all that really matters to Celtic is securing a ticket into the group stage of this season’s Europa League after enjoying some serious scalp- claiming at this level last time.

On-loan Saints ace Elyounoussi said: “We’ll just focus on tomorrow night but of course want to progress. If we can play again like we did at the weekend it would be good for us.

“We are just focused on going to Bosnia and producing a good performance. We obviously want to get to the group stage.

“Of course, the memories we have of Lazio make us want more of that. Celtic as a club also deserves to be in the group stage.

“Those nights were amazing, I hope we can have more of them, especially at Celtic Park.”

Derby County Eye Move for Palace Striking Outcast .
Crystal Palace outcast Connor Wickham could make a deadline day exit from the club as Championship side Derby County turn their attention towards signing the striker. According to Football Insider, the Rams are ‘desperately’ trying to recruit a new striker before Friday’s transfer deadline and have identified the 27-year-old as a potential option. An unfortunate run of injuries has limited the former Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday striker to just 39 appearances since the start of the 2016/17 campaign. Wickham is now entering the final year of his current deal with the Eagles, and Hodgson’s side may be tempted to cash in.
