Revealed: The provisional team to support Chris Froome and Richard Carapaz at the Vuelta a Espana
Wurf, Amador and Golas on eight-rider roster with Doull, Knees and Rodriguez on standbyAs Cyclingnews reported on Thursday, Egan Bernal will not take part in the race with the 2019 Tour de France winner set to concentrate on his long-term health. The Colombian was off the pace in this year’s Tour and withdrew with a back injury before Paris. There had been speculation that he could return for the Vuelta, which runs from October 20 to November 8, but the team has decided to rest their most valuable asset and build up towards 2021 and a return to the Tour de France.

Better late than never: the 2020 Vuelta a España gets underway in the Basque Country on October 20 after the coronavirus pandemic forced most of the calendar into less than four months of racing.

The final Grand Tour of 2020 has been reduced to 18 stages after the cancellation of the opening days in the Netherlands but that only means that all of the toughest stages have been condensed into a shorter time frame with no room for error.
Primož Roglič (Jumbo-Visma) is leading the race after three stages and a victory on stage 1 at the Alto de Arrate. The Slovenian is joined by a wrecking crew of a team, with Tom Dumoulin, George Bennett, Robert Gesink and Sepp Kuss joining him in the Tour-Vuelta double.

Roglic in red once more as Carapaz, Martin and Mas lose timeThe USA's Will Barta (CCC Team) put in a phenomenal ride on the 33.7km course, but was prevented from taking the stage victory by Roglič by just a single second. It was the Slovenian's third stage victory so far at this year's Vuelta, which meant that, as well as retaking the race lead, the 31-year-old also extended his lead in the points competition, with second-placed Carapaz now set to wear green for Wednesday's stage 14 from Lugo to Ourense.
