It's a day that will live long in the memory of Motherwell fans as The Steelmen pulled off a stunning result at Hampden three years ago.

Pedro Caixinha's Rangers were heavy favourites going into the game, but boss Stephen Robinson and star man Louis Moult had other idea in the League Cup semi-ifinal.

A double from the striker, including a wonderful long-range volley from Moult, secured 'Well's first visit to Hampden in six years as they reached their first League Cup showpiece since 2005.

For Ibrox fans looking back on the game, it will more likely bring back memories of Ryan Bowman's clash with Fabio Cardoso and the tail end of Caixinha's tenure as manager.

I guess first of all - Louis Moult, it was some performance from him on the day. What was your reaction from the stands for both goals?

Both goals were greeted with absolute bedlam, there was quite a scramble for the first goal, but the second is an outrageous bit of individual quality from Louis Moult.

It’s a goal I’ll never, ever tire of watching back.

It’s almost as if everyone inside the ground collectively held their breath before the ball makes that wonderful noise on hitting the net - easily one of my favourite memories of following Motherwell.

How confident were you going into the game?

In all honesty I’m never confident ahead of playing Rangers.

I recently sat and worked out it had been over 50 odd league games and almost 18 years since we beat Rangers in the league.

Going into this one it was only the play-off games that provided some comfort that we could win when it mattered.

Despite not really thinking much of that [Pedro] Caixinha team, history meant we went to Hampden more in hope than expectation.

Speaking of Pedro Caixinha, he seemed to take exception to a Ryan Bowman tackle during the game and had a clash with Stephen Robinson on the touchline.

How do you remember the reaction from the stands, and the resulting fall-out?

It certainly got heated and I think there were a lot of harsh accusations levelled at the team following that game.

[Ryan] Bowman caught [Fabio] Cardoso with an elbow and there were a few tasty challenges - the worst of which for me was Bruno Alves on Louis Moult, something he was later banned for.

How do you look back on that team?

The team were branded ‘hammer throwers’ and I think people overlooked the quality in the team by focusing on their physical style.

It wasn’t always great to watch, but we were a team that could produce the goods when it mattered and one that played to our strengths.

It was a brilliant achievement to reach two finals in the one season and one that Stephen Robinson, the players and the staff should be very proud of.

It was the first cup final reached since 2011, and League Cup final since 2005, how good a moment was that as a fan?

It was an incredible day and the celebrations at the end were fantastic.

We hammered Aberdeen in the quarter-final and then followed it up with the win over Rangers.

It was as tough a route to the final as we could have encountered and although we fell short of winning the cup against a very strong Celtic side, it was a great journey and I hold very fond memories of these times.
