West Ham Fans React To Renewed Olivier Giroud Transfer Question

West Ham Fans React To Renewed Olivier Giroud Transfer Question Recognised West Ham outlet Claret & Hugh have reignited the discussion over an approach for Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud by suggesting the Hammers could be interested in bringing the striker in on a short-term loan deal. David Moyes’ squad is worryingly light in striking options and it has long since been the belief the Irons could do with bringing an alternative centre-forward to the London Stadium. Sebastien Haller and Michail Antonio are the two senior centre-forward options, with the latter currently absent with a hamstring injury and the former managing just 12 goals in 44 games since his £45m move in 2019.

There has been plenty of speculation that David Moyes could attempt to land the 34-year-old Frenchman.

However, following Giroud’s match-winning contribution off the bench during Chelsea’s last-gasp win over Rennes in midweek, Lampard told BT Sport he is reluctant to let the striker leave, saying: “Oli will get his minutes because we have a busy schedule, we play every few days.”

Lampard, who started his playing career with the Irons, continued to praise the World Cup winner, as he said: “He’s getting better with age if anything in terms of how he looks after himself. So he offers a lot for us and I keep saying it but the big schedule coming up and the way we play means I will rely on players.”

West Ham Named 'Favourites' For Olivier Giroud's Signature

West Ham Named 'Favourites' For Olivier Giroud's Signature West Ham have been named as favourites in the pursuit of Olivier Giroud in a report this week as the French striker looks to find a way out of Chelsea in the near future. The Hammers are unlikely to have the race to sign the 34-year-old all their own way, however, as Football Italia reported that four of the biggest hitters in Serie A are all interested in signing the World Cup winner. Inter Milan, Roma, Lazio and Juventus would all provide stiff competition for David Moyes, who is keen to bolster his striking options in the wake of Michail Antionio’s recent injury absence.

It has been widely publicised that Moyes is seeking an additional striker when the January window opens, and Giroud – who has featured just eight times for Chelsea across all competitions this term – was seemingly a name at the top of the list.

Although the deal isn’t quite dead in the water, in the coming weeks the striker will almost certainly need to see increased game-time or he will likely push for a move in order to boost his France prospects for Euro 2020 next summer.

At 34, the signing of Giroud wouldn’t tick many boxes for the Irons, although the proven goalscorer could be a very useful short-term option for Moyes.

However, should the Frenchman see an increase in his game-time and decide to stay at Stamford Bridge, the Hammers could look elsewhere with a longer-term view to bolstering their centre-forward options.

West Ham Insiders Confirm Michail Antonio Training Return .
West Ham insiders Claret & Hugh confirmed their understanding that Michail Antonio has been back in training this week ahead of Monday night’s clash with Aston Villa. Antonio has been absent since hobbling off against Manchester City five weeks ago with a hamstring problem – a game in which the 30-year-old scored the opening goal. In his absence, Sebastien Haller has taken over the mantle with mixed results, grabbing the winner in the Hammers’ last outing following two indifferent performances beforehand. David Moyes may well be tempted to include his key striker from the start, but given his layoff, the manager may be resigned to using him from the bench.
