The IHF World Women ' s Handball Championship has been organized by the International Handball Federation since 1957. European team have won every time except 1995 where South Korea won as the first team outside Europe and 2013 where Brazil won as the first American team.
The 2019 IHF World Women ' s Handball Championship , the 24th event hosted by the International Handball Federation, was held in Japan from 30 November to 15 December 2019.
The women's handball championship is taking place in the middle of the corona crisis. The pandemic will affect the tournament from December 3rd to 20th. The German Press Agency answers the most important questions about the final round.

Where is the game being played?
Originally the EM should take place with 16 teams in Denmark and Norway. However, due to the tense Corona situation, Norway jumped out as co-host at short notice, so that all tournament games will be played in Denmark. The venues are Herning and Kolding, where the German team plays their preliminary round games.

How is the mode and who are the German group opponents?
There are four preliminary round groups from which the three best teams qualify for the main round. The results from the games against each other are taken. The first two of the two main round groups play for the medals, the third placed for fifth. The DHB selection meets Romania, Norway and Poland in preliminary group D. If they advance, the world champions Netherlands, Hungary, Serbia and Croatia are the possible opponents.

Where can the fans watch the German team's games?
There is no transmission in classic television. After all, "Sportdeutschland.TV" shows all 47 final round games on the Internet, including those of the DHB selection. "Of course we would be very happy if we would show up with women's handball on public television, but football is the big placeholder," said DHB board member Axel Kromer about the TV situation. Who are the favorites?
The hottest contenders for European Championship gold include world champions Netherlands, defending champions France as well as the European Championship second and World Cup third Russia. But also vice world champion Spain or the seven-time title holder and record European champion Norway expect opportunities.
How does the Corona crisis affect the EM?
The organizers have developed a strict hygiene concept. All participants must have passed five negative tests before entering Denmark and undergo another PCR test immediately upon arrival in Denmark. Afterwards, the team hotel is initially isolated until the results are available. Testing takes place every three days during the final round. The entire EM convoy moves in a bubble. External contacts are prohibited, anyone who leaves the hotel except for training or a game loses their accreditation. Should a team still have a positive Corona case, the EM squad may be filled with a substitute player.
