In the second home game as Mainz head coach, Bo Svensson achieved his first victory. At the next opponent VfB Stuttgart, colleague Pellegrino Matarazzo has been waiting for such a sense of achievement for eight games. A major factor in the 3-2 score against Leipzig were two standard goals.

Until last Saturday, Mainz was one of the teams that stood out for the harmlessness of their standards. Then Danny Latza kicked a free kick and a corner so well that it resulted in a 1-1 and 2-2, with which the deficit was quickly equalized twice. "We came back with two sets," said coach Bo Svensson after Moussa Niakhaté's brace.

First goal ever after a corner

For Mainz it was the standard goals number four and five. The FSV left Schalke 04 (4) and FC Augsburg (3) behind in the league ranking, with Arminia Bielefeld (2) at the bottom. In the first half of the season only two penalty kicks (Daniel Brosinski and Jean-Philippe Mateta) and one goal after a free-kick cross (Alexander Hack) were noted for Mainz. After a corner, the team had not yet scored at all.

During the execution against Leipzig it was noticed that the actual standard shooters are currently not on the field. Daniel Brosinski was absent due to a knee injury, Kevin Stöger was on the bench. He was brought in in October because of his standard qualities, among other things, but has only made three starting eleven so far.

Defensively, Mainz has some catching up to do with standards

Mainz also has room for improvement when it comes to defensive standards, a goal against Leipzig also resulted from a corner. It was already the fourth goal that the Rheinhessen captured in this way. A total of twelve FSV goals conceded after dormant balls are recorded - only Hertha BSC and Borussia Dortmund (13 each), 1. FC Köln (14) and Schalke 04 (19) have a worse record in the league.

Apparently Robert Glatzel is to be loaned from England's lower house. After the departure of Jean-Philippe Mateta, the FSV would have a new center forward.
