Sport Brian Reid hails Albion Rovers' character as he targets sixth place
Susanna Reid ‘feared GMB axe' if she ‘spoke too highly in favour' of Piers Morgan
SUSANNA REID "disappointed" Piers Morgan with her parting comment on Good Morning Britain, but the former presenter believes Susanna didn't say too much out of fear for her own job."It seems like you have affection for her," Tucker commented.
Albion Rovers boss Brian Reid hailed his players' character as they shrugged off a four-hour early morning journey to thump Elgin City 5-2 at Borough Briggs to consolidate seventh place in League Two.
And Reid says his side don't fear anybody in the division as he sets his sights on catching Stenhousemuir and finishing sixth.
Rovers took a 2-1 lead into the interval of today's lunchtime kick-off, with strikes from Matty Aitken and Ryan Stevenson either side of a Kane Hester goal for City.
Though that second goal has been given as an own-goal by keeper Tom McHale, Reid joked that "if you know Ryan... try to take it off him" after the former Hearts star's shot struck the post before hitting the shot-stopper.
'We might be holograms' Brian Cox 'blows Ruth Langsford's mind' with staggering claim
BRIAN COX left This Morning host Ruth Langsford absolutely baffled after he claimed humans might actually "be holograms"."We've come to the conclusion, I'll just say it out loud then I'll stop," Brian began.
Kyle Doherty climbed off the bench to score a sensational double, with Aitken also bagging his second in 57 minutes.
Reid was delighted with the performance and hopes they can take that into Tuesday's home match against Stranraer in the final fixture before League Two splits.
He said: "We're delighted, because it's not an easy place to come, Elgin, and to score four, five goals away from home is exceptional.
"The players put in a really battling performance, worked their socks off and gave us everything we asked for, and to come back down the road with five goals, we're delighted.
"It's a big, big three points for us and keeps the run going - I think that's five games undefeated and one defeat in seven - so we're not being blase, but we're confident of beating any team in this division now.
Every on-screen Joker ranked from worst to best
Does Joaquin Phoenix stack up to Heath Ledger's portrayal? And will Jared Leto's new look Joker change the game?
"We're a totally different team, we've got great confidence and the team are working really hard, so long may that continue.
"It has been good, but we need to keep it going and hopefully we fan finish the season strong."
Reid added: "I think we started sloppy, actually. Elgin started brightly in the first 10-15 minutes and I don't think we got out the traps, but a lot of the players were up at 4.30am or 5am this morning - I was up myself just after 5am - and maybe that's one reason why we started sloppy, which you can understand, but one thing is that the players in my squad are good characters and will give their all.
"They had a four-hour journey to come off the bus, straight into a game and an early kick-off, but it didn't affect the players and that's great credit to them, their work ethic, and everything else they've got, so they got the rewards for the hard work they put in."
Ryan Stevenson warns Albion Rovers not to put hard work to waste at Cowdenbeath
The Cliftonhill striker says they must keep building on good run of form in survival questStevenson netted his second goal in three games as Rovers claimed a 4-2 win over 10-man Brechin, who had Christopher McKee sent off late on, to move nine points clear of the League Two basement side.
Reid was delighted with his scorers, with his front three all scoring today.
He said: You're always looking for that, and for your subs to make an impact. I'm delighted for young Kyle Doherty to come on and score two, he worked hard and he got his reward.
"It's nice to see big Matty get his two goals, I thought he was very good, and he worked really hard today as well.
"I said to him before, if he can add the 'dirty' side to his game, plus everything else you'll get the rewards, and I'm delighted to see him score two today.
"Ryan Stevenson got one as well. That was three strikers on the park and they all got goals, so it was nice to see.
"Ryan is definitely going for it. If you know Ryan... try to take it off him!"
Rovers move on to that clash against fourth-placed Stranraer looking for points to bring them closer to Stenhousemuir, who currently sit four points ahead.
Reid said: "We're not being blase, but we're confident of playing against anyone and winning just now.
"It's a home game, we need to go into it and get the three points, but Stranraer have picked up a couple of good wins and we're expecting a tough game.
"We must go into it with great confidence and a belief in ourselves that we can go and pick up three points, and our aim is to keep looking up.
"Stenhousemuir are four points ahead of us, if we could catch them and finish sixth it would turn into a not-bad season for us."
