The Tottenham defender has revealed he believes there has been an ‘unfair narrative’ portrayed of him this season as the reason behind the team’s drop off in form since December 2020.

Discussing his season with the north London side, Dier had the following to say:

“I think fans have seen what I can do in glimpses, especially at the beginning of the season. I think I had a very good first six months and it dropped a little bit for a few games, but I feel like I’ve been back to a good place for a couple of months now.”

Worrying Mendes update emerges in Spurs' manager hunt, fans should fear Mourinho 2.0 - opinion

  Worrying Mendes update emerges in Spurs' manager hunt, fans should fear Mourinho 2.0 - opinion Tottenham Hotspur should avoid appointing Nuno Santo as their next manager as Daniel Levy could repeat his Jose Mourinho disaster.The Sun claim super-agent Jorge Mendes wants to take Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Nuno Espirito Santo to Spurs, and they report that he has made contact with the north London outfit over a potential switch this summer.

“Just the narrative I see that is painted of me, at times,” he added. “It doesn’t really bother me too much. I just think it’s a bit unfair at times. It’s football.”

Despite the criticism, Dier feels he has received this season, the defender was able to keep his spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the World Cup Qualifiers in March.

Spurs fans flocked to the tweet from Alasdair Gold relaying the report and not many were impressed by the 27-year-old’s comments.

“He’s cost us 8+ goals this season and has been part of a shambolic defence. No wonder that changing room is always a let down”

@Scott_delaney15
“this bloke really is delusional”
@dvwgsrnw89
“what a clown dier is”
@UncleNigelP
“A bit of accountability Eric. We have seen you make mistakes and then turn round and bark at less senior defenders…..”
@ElCapitain82
“Crazy, he nearly gave a goal away at the weekend with a mistake that can only be described as daft”
@TwoProngCrown
“Deluded. In the first half against Sheffield United he misplaced a basic pass to PEH which led to a breakaway and could possibly have been a goal. Need I recount the 20+ other mistakes, many of which have seen us concede. Geez I hope he leaves in the summer.”
@fadetoblack777
“The narrative in the media was that he’s been good! He’s been woeful!”
@lev_simon
“Bin him. Terminate his contract #ENICOut”

Dier has made 25 appearances for Spurs this season in the Premier League alone and has played every minute under interim manager Ryan Mason (via Transfermarkt).

Going by the reaction of these Spurs fans it is apparent they were not amused by the comments from Dier with many disagreeing with what the defender had to say.
