Former Portsmouth midfielder David Norris has claimed that his ex club will struggle to make their money back on John Marquis if they look to sell the striker this summer, during an exclusive interview with Football League World.

The 28-year-old frontman has cut a frustrated figure at times for the South Coast club despite racking up 17 goals in all competitions and inevitable questions have been raised over his long term future with the club.

Of course, Pompey once again missed out on promotion to the Championship, with Danny Cowley’s men falling short of the play-off places in Sky Bet League One, with many fans pinning the blame on the shoulders of the misfiring Marquis.

HMS Prince of Wales returns to the sea after two leaks in five months

HMS Prince of Wales returns to the sea after two leaks in five months The ship was stranded in Portsmouth in December 2020 after thousands of gallons of sea water poured into the vessel's engine room for more than 24 hours and damaged the electrics. The state-of-the-art ship was banned from setting sale until repairs were made, with defence minister Jeremy Quin revealing the fix would cost £3.3million.It marked the second leak for the 65,000-tonne ship - which was due to depart for the US to carry out tests with the F-35 stealth jets - in less than a year. The engine room had already been flooded to the depth of 3ft during a leak in May.

The striker still has one year remaining on his current contract at Fratton Park, a factor which could make a summer departure tough.

Now Norris has claimed that the club could struggle to make a lot of the money back on a player that they signed for a sizeable fee from Doncaster Rovers just two years ago, with the ex-midfielder stating the following to FLW:

“I mean how do you cash in on him, he’s probably at an all time low, value wise, it hasn’t gone great, he has struggled but at the same time, it’s not just his fault.

“I think he’s obviously lacking confidence, you know things are probably not happening instinctively for him when he’s first receiving the ball. And when you start losing confidence, you take that extra second and you;re not sure. And then you end up losing the ball or not looking in control.

“I think his name will still hold well if they look to cash in and they might be able to get him out and free up the wages. But in terms of getting back the fee that they paid for him, I think they might struggle.”
