England have never won an European title, could this be the year when that all changes? The delayed Euro 2020 championships are on the horizon and some bookmakers have them as favourites to lift the trophy. Could the years of hurt be about to end?

A lot of progress has been made under Gareth Southgate in recent years. This is an open tournament and England are generally 5/1 joint favourites with France. Can they justify those odds though?

Would England be favourites to beat teams such as France or Germany? One factor that the bookmakers are taking into consideration is the number of home games England could have at Euro 2020.

This is a tournament that is taking place all around Europe, not the best idea at this point in time. All three of England’s group matches will be played at Wembley. If they get that far, then their last 16 match, semi-final and the final would also be played at England’s national stadium and with fans present, hopefully.

Will that help England? It didn’t when they hosted the European Championships 25 years ago. Playing at home helps but it can also put a lot of pressure on you too. Besides, if the opposition is better than you on the night, it doesn’t matter where the match is being played.

England do have a lot in their favour though and they could still justify the odds of 5/1 available on them. Why not be a winner and register a new sportsbook account, claim the Bet365 bonus and then use those bet credits to back England?

As is often the case, England have a team that has so much promise. This time though, the younger players have a bit more experience of top level international football. The injury list isn’t that worrying either.

Keeping players such as Harry Kane, Raheem Sterling, Phil Foden (an old head on a young body), Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford fit is essential but not compulsory. England have more strength in depth this time around. There’s still a worry about the goalkeeping position and the occasional defensive lapses. Can they keep out the top strikers in Europe?

You don’t have to be betting on England to win the title to make a profit. Sportsbooks have plenty of other markets available. How about Harry Kane to be top scorer, there are odds as high as 8/1 on that happening and you can bet each way.

Then there’s markets such as Best Player and Best Young Player of the tournament. With so many young players in the England team, a bet on someone like Phil Foden at 5/1 could pay dividends.

Betting on them to win their group certainly looks a winning wager. They should have few problems against the Czech Republic and Croatia, both of whom have been beaten at Wembley in recent years. 3/4 on England to beat Croatia particularly looks attractive with their opponents often struggling on their travels.

Then there’s Scotland, it’s great to see them back in a major finals but they won’t beat England. If they did, it’d be like winning the final.

England had a good draw in the last World Cup, missing out on the top teams. That might not be the case in this tournament. If they win Group D, that takes them into a last 16 match at Wembley against the runners-up in Group F.

That could be a major problem for Gareth Southgate’s team. Group F has another name, it’s the Group of Death. The team finishing second could be either France, Germany or defending champions Portugal. It’s too much to hope it’ll be Hungary. It’s crazy, the two teams at the top of the betting could meet in the last 16!

If England can get through the last 16, then there is a chance of success. Imagine the level of expectation if they beat a major nation in that round. It would be like when England destroyed the Netherlands in 1996, only to eventually lose on penalties to Germany (again).

Spain and the Netherlands may be the two countries between them and their first ever European Championship final. It’s going to be a long hard road but there are plenty of Euro 2020 bets you can place on England that can be profitable.

Predicting the Euro 2020 Team of the Tournament .
Mbappe, Walker and Rudiger will be hoping to shine at Euro 2020As dire as international breaks might be during the season itself, there's nothing quite like a major tournament when the sun is shining, the beers are flowing and everyone is cheering on their nation.
