Dean Windass reckons that Eddie Howe would fit the bill at Crystal Palace but has questioned whether the location could prove a potential barrier.

A brief spell at Burnley aside, the former Bournemouth boss has lived on the south coast for the best part of three decades as both a player and manager.

But Howe, who has tasted success in 56 of his 190 matches in the Premier League, has been linked to several vacancies since stepping down as Cherries manager just less than 12 months ago following their relegation, and held talks about replacing Neil Lennon at Celtic.

However, his potential move to Parkhead recently collapsed, meaning he remains a contender for the Palace job.

Prior to Roy Hodgson’s departure last month, the 43-year-old was on a three-man shortlist along with Frank Lampard and Sean Dyche, although the likes of Steve Cooper and Nuno Espirito Santo have also been linked to Selhurst Park.

But Windass has doubts over whether Howe would be willing to move to London and away from his hometown.

He told Football FanCast:

“Eddie Howe would be a good fit – a young manager that has done well. A new challenge for Eddie. I am surprised he didn’t take the Celtic job.

“Everyone asks the question about Eddie Howe; does he want to live that far away from Bournemouth? He’s lived there his whole life.”
