Sport Delighted Mick McCarthy delivers Kieffer Moore transfer verdict as he issues fitness update ahead of Cardiff City's clash with Barnsley
Cardiff City striker Isaac Vassell's absence explained as Mick McCarthy gives update on injured stars
The Cardiff striker sat out Saturday's draw with Exeter CityVassell, who netted in the 5-0 win over Bath City earlier in the month, has been working his way back towards a first team return this summer after previously spending the best part of two years on the treatment table.
Cardiff City manager Mick McCarthy has expressed his delight at the lack of transfer interest in Kieffer Moore this summer following the striker's blistering season in front of goal last year.
The Bluebirds marksman banged home 20 goals during his debut season in the Welsh capital, which prompted many to believe that some Premier League clubs would come sniffing.
However, following his impressive display at the Euros and on the eve of the 2021/22 Championship season, Moore remains a Cardiff City player.
The fact no club has registered any serious interest yet has left City boss McCarthy surprised and elated in equal measure.
Ipswich Town strike transfer agreement with Barnsley
Ipswich Town have agreed a fee with Barnsley over the expected transfer of forward Conor Chaplin this summer, as per a recent report by Football Insider. "Surprised? Delighted! That would be more appropriate," was McCarthy's verdict on the lack of interest in his chief striker.
"I don’t want any interest in him at all. The only interest I want is from us.
"He has come back and, unfortunately, he had Covid so has missed out.
"Everyone wants him to stay. I am a bit surprised, because of the way he played last year, somebody has not had any interest in him.
"But we would want a lot of money for him, maybe that’s putting a few off.
"I see (Sam) Surridge went from Bournemouth for £6m or £7m? What does that make Kieffer with the performances he has had over the last two years and the goals he has scored.
"It makes him a valuable asset."
Moore has not kicked a ball for Cardiff in pre-season, however that does not mean he will not play a part in the season opener against Barnsley this Saturday afternoon.

"He’s trained today,".
"He was back training. He’s not been off that long. He came back and trained and looks great, moving well, he is feeling fit.
"We might be looking at Tuesday [against Sutton United], he could be involved - he could be on the bench Saturday actually, if this week’s training is anything to go by."
McCarthy did, however, rule out Lee Tomlin, Isaac Vassell, Rubin Colwill, Isaak Davies and Kieron Evans for this Saturday's curtain-raiser.
