What happened with Cooper this summer?

Despite two successful campaigns with Swansea, the second of which ended in play-off final heartache to Brentford last May, Cooper left the Liberty Stadium by mutual consent just weeks before the start of the new Championship season.

The 41-year-old was then linked with the job at Crystal Palace after Roy Hodgson stepped down, but the Eagles opted to appoint Patrick Vieira as their new manager.

They needed to steady the ship, none more so after inexplicably missing out on a play-off finish the season before. Results and performances were inconsistent under Aitor Karanka in 2018/19, and in came the experienced Martin O’Neill.

How is Cooper expected to do at Forest?

Whilst Forest are still inside the relegation-zone, Cooper should inherit a squad that have their tails up following their victory at Huddersfield Town last weekend.

But he has a massive job on his hands overall. Forest have sacked a ludicrous number of managers since they were last in the Premier League, and therefore Cooper will be hoping he can put a stop to that trend and finally get the City Ground outfit back to where they should be.

But with just one victory from eight league matches, his short-term objectives are getting the club away from danger and making sure they don't get dragged into a dogfight.
