“On the flip-side, whatever happens, win, lose or draw for any team, it’s not going to decide the championship, but it would certainly be three points in this league that are so welcome.

“If you can get a few wins together you can propel yourself very quickly up the league and it would be a massive boost to go top.

“At any point, if you can get to the top of the pile it’s always nice and what everybody’s trying to aspire to.

“I’d rather it was at the business end of the season, but getting your noses in front, and keeping yourself in front, is really difficult.

“We’re quite happy where we are, in terms of our points tally, but we want in that second quarter to surpass what we’ve done in this one and keep going.

“Saturday is a really hard start to the quarter, but also a great one.”

Falkirk won the first fixture this season 2-1 at New Broomfield on August 14 – their first league win over the Diamonds in over two seasons – but Murray says this is a completely different game.

He said: “We’ve faced Falkirk now three seasons in a row, and they’ll be looking to bounce back as well into the Championship,

like a lot of teams in this league.

“It will be a very difficult game, away from home, but it’s one in which we actually played really well in the reverse game at home, which was the third in the season.

“We were very disappointed and unlucky not to take anything from the game, but that’s football and we move on. This is a new game with a new set of circumstances, we go into it in good form, and good confidence, and we want to add to our points tally.”

Airdrie took part in a bounce game at Stenhousemuir on Saturday, which kept players ticking over and provided more game-time for the likes of Callum Fordyce, Gabby McGill, Jordan Allan and Salim Kouider-Aissa.

Alexander Zverev notched his first career win against Andy Murray with a 6-4, 7-6(4) victory that moved him into the fourth round at Indian Wells. Murray has blames lack of consistency in his lost against the German.

Murray said: “It has been busy, and a busy week at training – just a normal week, really.

“Players have trained really hard, we played a wee bounce game on Saturday at Stenhousemuir just to give guys a run-out as well. I just felt there was no point in having a weekend off so early in the season.

“I know we don’t get many, but I just felt it was important to keep guys ticking over, especially with no reserve leagues and things like that.

“We had a wee run-out and it was very worthwhile. It gave us a wee chance to get a few guys up to speed.

“It gave Kerr McInroy some more familiarity with the players. It was really low-key, but more importantly we all came through it okay.”
