“It was a short back pass and Russell nipped in and stole the ball. Their goalie has come sliding out, the defender has slid in and the referee has instantly blown for the penalty.

“He’s got a really good view of it, he booked the defender and then the Broomhill players surrounded the linesman. After a few minutes he called the referee over and after a discussion he’s changed his decision and given a corner.

“After the game our captain and one of the coaches asked why it was overturned. The linesman said he’d seen a Broomhill foot touch the ball but didn’t have a great angle and wasn’t sure if it was ball before player or player before ball. The referee has the best view of everybody and gave the penalty so I don’t know how the linesman can overturn it when he openly admits he doesn’t have the best view.
