North Wales has always been a huge footballing hotbed and many of Wales' leading footballers have come from the north of our country. Added to that, many of the major clubs just over the border consider some of our best players to be legends of the club.

From Neville Southall and Kevin Ratcliffe at Everton, Ian Rush at Liverpool and Mark Hughes at Manchester United, some of our brightest and best footballers have gone on to great things at the major English clubs.

With that in mind, here are some of the next generation hoping to make it big at some of the major Premier League clubs across the border.

Owen Beck (Liverpool)

Born and bred in Flint, Owen Beck comes from fine footballing stock. He is the great-nephew of Liverpool's record goalscorer and Wales international legend Ian Rush. The 19-year-old signed his first professional contract in 2020 and signed renewed terms this year. The attack-minded left-back will be hoping he can emulate fellow North Wales LFC full-back Neco Williams and play regularly for the first team at Anfield.

Ryan Astley (Everton)

A strong and composed defender with considerable quality on the ball, Astley is a player with bags of potential. The Llanfair Caereinion teenager signed a pro deal at Goodison Park in the summer and having won last year's Everton u23 player of the season award looks set to follow in the footsteps of some illustrious fellow Welsh Evertonians.

Dan Davies (Chelsea)

Although technically still a Wrexham AFC player, full back Dan Davies is currently on a week-long trial at Chelsea FC after also attracting interest from Liverpool. Described as a 'wonderkid' the Wrexham-born youngster is still only 16 years old and recently played his first game for the Wales under 18 side. He will certainly be one to keep an eye on over the next few years, that's for sure.

Morgan Boyes (Liverpool)

Born in St Asaph, Morgan Boyes has been capped six times by Wales under 21s and is considered a bright prospect at Anfield also. The young centre back had a brief loan spell at Fleetwood Town and played a couple of times before being recalled by Jurgen Klopp. He has also featured on a couple of occasions for the LFC first team in both the EFL Cup and the FA Cup.

Another Wrexham-born player, Rhys Hughes has been a consistently excellent performer for David Unsworth's Everton under 23s side and the young midfielder has regularly featured for Paul Bodin's Wales under 21 side also. He is currently under contract at Goodison Park until June 2022 but is expected to sign a new contract in the near future.
