Coventry City head into this weekend’s clash with struggling Hull City sitting in fourth place in the Championship – a remarkable feat considering it is just their second season back in the second tier.

There’s a chasing back behind ready to try and overtake the Sky Blues but they’ve been in remarkable form especially at home during this campaign, winning every match as hosts until Derby County stopped that run last weekend with a 1-1 draw.

Despite not being as potent on the road, there will be extreme confidence going into their match this weekend, with the Tigers who are struggling for results at the bottom end of the league.

There’s no team news yet to report from Coventry’s end before that clash, so let’s look at the rest of the news coming out of the CBS Arena this week.

Goodman not shocked by Sky Blues form

Many may be surprised that after 14 matches the Sky Blues sit fourth in the Championship – but it doesn’t shock Don Goodman.

The former Wolves striker told FreeSuperTips that he expected Coventry to do well this season and they’re more-than proving him right.

“They drew 0-0 with Watford last season and were the far better team, so they showed their capabilities,” Goodman said.

“A few weeks later they beat Brentford, so we got glimpses of what Coventry can do and they’ve brought people in to improve their team, so I’m not too surprised at them other than the fact that they’re fourth.”

CEO praises Cov fans

Dave Boddy has been the CEO of Coventry City since February 2017, and a lot of things have happened in that time.

He is the man though that was able to push through a deal for the club to not only return to the Coventry Building Society Arena after two years away, but is also behind plans for the Sky Blues to build their own stadium in the near future.

And in an interview with the Daily Mail, Boddy has heaped praise on the Coventry faithful for getting behind their team in both numbers and noise-wise, which may be contributing to their fantastic start to the campaign.

“It is not just the numbers, it is the noise they are generating,” Boddy said.

“The supporters have been galvanised by the return to Coventry. They are incredible.”

With three goals in seven Championship appearances this season, Matty Godden has a respectable goal ratio and he’s also recently been rewarded with a new contract, which is the least he deserves.

After serving a two-match ban following the 4-1 drubbing over Fulham, where he was charged with simulation, the striker returned to the line-up and the scoresheet against Derby County last weekend, where he brought out a lawnmower celebration with Fankaty Dabo to the amusement of many.

In a Q & A with Coventry’s media team, Godden has now revealed where this originates from – his two-year old son is obsessed with the garden appliance and it has stuck – so there you go!
