Barnsley were defeated in their first home game in the Poya Asbaghi era, with Swansea City running out as 2-0 winners.
Second half strikes from Oliver Ntcham and Jamie Paterson earned The Swans all three points in what was a relatively dominant display from the away side.
The Tykes are now six points adrift of Championship safety, having picked up a mere 11 points from 11 games this season, whilst The Swans have jumped up the table to ninth and are four points from the play-off positions.
Barnsley have now lost 10 out of their last 11 matches in the Championship and have won just two games in the league this season.
‘Proud of the guys’ – Swansea boss hails performance against Barnsley
After a recent slump in form, Swansea manager Russell Martin applauds his side's reaction against an unpredictable Barnsley sideGoals from Olivier Ntcham and Jamie Paterson in the second-half secured a much-needed victory for the Swans. Martin’s men are now four points off the play-off places. They ended a two-game winless run at Oakwell but have won just two away games from eight Championship games.
After a sensational campaign last time out, fans would have been expecting another play-off push during this season, however, The Tykes have lost all confidence.
Keeping the majority of the players who saw success at Oakwell last season, they have massively struggled to replicate that this time out.
Possessing a young, yet strong squad, The Tykes will be hopeful that confidence can be instilled back into them and they can save their Championship status in what remains of the season.
