Sheffield United could lose Ben Davies in the January transfer window, with the centre-back reportedly on West Ham’s list of potential targets heading into 2022.

Davies has joined the Blades on loan from Liverpool and featured for 90 minutes yesterday as Sheffield United kickstarted the Paul Heckingbottom era with a 2-0 win over Bristol City.

However, reports over the weekend have confirmed that Davies is on West Ham’s shortlist ahead of January, with David Moyes looking to bolster his defensive ranks in the early part of 2022.

Latest Covid-19 case rates for UK local authority areas Nearly nine in 10 areas have recorded a week-on-week rise in rates. The figures, for the seven days to November 15, are based on the number of people who have tested positive for Covid-19 in either a lab-reported or rapid lateral flow test, by specimen date.

It’s explained in The Sun how Davies’ loan can be broken off if Liverpool receive a better offer for his service either on loan or permanently.

Davies, 26, has helped Sheffield United to three straight clean sheets in the Championship, assisting the transition from Slavisa Jokanovic to Heckingbottom.

The Blades have reverted to a three-man defensive unit in that period, with Davies striking the perfect balance with John Egan and Chris Basham.

Yesterday, goals from Rhian Brewster and Billy Sharp at the end of each half secured Sheffield United a 2-0 win over Bristol City. Davies and the rest of the Blades’ defensive unit were barely tested by a poor Robins attack.

The Verdict

It would be a huge blow for Sheffield United to lose Davies.

He has been a key man for David MoyesRice was a man in demand during the most recent transfer window, but the Hammers managed to keep their key man at the club after boss David Moyes admitted the 22-year-old is worth more than £100million.

When you look at the way Sheffield United have lined up in the last three fixtures, Davies is the ideal man to play on the left of a back-three, capable of stepping out in possession and filling the Jack O’Connell void.

He’s got unfinished business in the Premier League, without doubt, which makes West Ham an even more exciting prospect than they already are.

However, from a Sheffield United point of view, they should be doing everything possible to retain the 26-year-old.
