  Aston Martin appoints Mike Krack as F1 team principal Former BMW motorsport boss Mike Krack has been appointed as the new team principal of the Aston Martin Formula 1 team, following the departure of Otmar Szafnauer earlier this month.He joined Sauber in 2001 and rose to the position of chief engineer in the works BMW era, and spent some time working with current Aston river Sebastian Vettel.

Aston Martin has become the first Formula 1 team to announce the launch date for its new car ahead of the 2022 season.

On Friday morning, Aston Martin revealed it would be unveiling the AMR22 to the public on February 10 as its headquarters in Gaydon.

This year will see all 10 teams reveal their new generation cars under F1’s revised technical regulations, which are expected to result in cars looking radically different to their predecessors.

Aston Martin enters this season aiming to make up for a disappointing 2021 campaign that saw it slip to seventh in the constructors’ championship in its first year racing under the British manufacturer.

Downforce cuts left the Silverstone-based outfit on the back foot compared to its rivals having continued to run its clone of Mercedes’ 2019 title-winning car that it controversially copied in 2020.

Four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel, who arrived from Ferrari, secured the team’s only podium finish of the season at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, while team-mate Lance Stroll finished a best of sixth in Qatar.

While Aston Martin will continue with the same driver line-up in 2022, it recently confirmed its split with CEO and team principal Otmar Szafnauer earlier this month.

Szafnauer has been linked with a switch to Alpine since late last year, with Aston Martin saying it would managed within the leadership team while it considers its options for a replacement.

Aston Martin’s new challenger will debut on-track in pre-season testing which begins on February 23 at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, with a further three-day test in Bahrain before the season opener at the Sakhir circuit on March 20.
