The 24-year-old inked a five-year deal with Roma last summer after becoming disillusioned with his peripheral role at Stamford Bridge. And it appears to have been the correct decision after he enjoyed a sensational first season in Italian football. The England international bagged 27 goals in all competitions, with 17 coming in Serie A.

Manager Jose Mourinho placed his trust in the Londoner, handing him 36 starts among 37 league outings. It was all a far cry from his previous campaign with the Blues.

Kounde left out of Sevilla's pre-season tour as Chelsea talks continueJules Kounde has been left out of Sevilla's pre-season training camp in Portugal as Chelsea continue talks to sign the defender. Chelsea have had a verbal agreement with Kounde since June. He has been admired by Tuchel for some time, having been linked with the Blues in last summer's transfer window.Tuchel is keen to add another centre-back to his squad having lost Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen to Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Abraham started just 12 times in the Premier League during the 2020-2021 season, scoring six goals. He proved his ability in the Eternal City, however, and was rewarded with an England recall.

The rangy hitman threw his lot in with Roma for five years but Chelsea inserted a buy-back clause after he completes two seasons in Rome.

The west Londoners can re-sign the forward for £67.3m next summer while Arsenal have also been linked. But, asked whether he wants to move back to the Bridge, the former Aston Villa loan man quickly set the record straight.

“No. The first day I arrived at Roma I felt at home,” he told Corriere dello Sport. “I’m in no hurry to get back to the Premier League because I can express my way of playing here. In Italy I feel happy in every respect.

Jules Kounde transfer saga leaves Chelsea under pressure as Thomas Tuchel sends 'urgent appeal'

Jules Kounde transfer saga leaves Chelsea under pressure as Thomas Tuchel sends 'urgent appeal' Thomas Tuchel has to complete the Jules Kounde transfer despite Barcelona's involvement but the situation has turned to desperation as the Blues suffer a heavy defeat to Arsenal in pre-seasonIt's between the Blues and of course, Barcelona, are in the race to sign Kounde. The rumours are up and down the scale and quite frankly, it's hard to keep up. One minute Chelsea and Sevilla are on the same page, the next, Barcelona are confident in signing the Frenchman. The Chelsea fanbase are rather fed up with the back and forth and I for one would rather just move on.

“Believe me, I am not thinking of the future, but only about the present. I focus exclusively on the season that is about to begin, because I want it to be even more rewarding than the first I experienced in Italy.”

No regrets as Abraham targets more goals

Abraham enjoyed his breakthrough season with Chelsea in 2019-20 when scoring 18 goals in all competitions. But it appeared as though he would only play a bit-part when the likes of Timo Werner and then Romelu Lukaku were signed.

And he is clearly delighted with the choice made 12 months ago, suggesting he has no regrets about quitting Thomas Tuchel’s side.

“Never, not even for a second,” he added. “Choosing Roma was one of the right decisions I’ve made in my life.”

The new season is rapidly approaching and the top stars will look to hit the ground running with the World Cup in mind. Abraham will hope to be part of Gareth Southgate’s side looking for glory in Qatar.

However, he refused to be drawn on whether the Three Lions was already on his mind, preferring to keep his focus on Roma.

“I think about working and growing,” he continued. “Last season was good but the goal is to make sure that the next one is even better.

“Maybe the best ever. Of course, we want to do better than last season and get back in the top four. It has to be a goal.”
