Sofian Chahed was known as a football player for his defensive qualities. Now the former professional, who played a total of 152 Bundesliga games for Hertha BSC and Hannover 96, goes on the offensive and becomes the new head coach at the 1st FFC Turbine Potsdam . So far, football has been an active sport for Chahed - as a player and for the past four years as a coach in the youth performance center at Hertha BSC. So now women's football.

"The future job at Turbine Potsdam is much more exciting than the tasks in my life so far", Chahed describes his new mission. He calls it the next step to achieve his goals and ambitions as a trainer. Women's football is becoming increasingly professional in Germany. VfL Wolfsburg, Bayern Munich and TSG Hoffenheim are now investing a lot of money in their women's teams, with the result that the gap to the rest of the league is getting bigger and bigger.

Turbine is one of the last pure women's football clubs

The 1st FFC Frankfurt, once Potsdam's long-standing rival for the German championship, wants to re-establish the connection and merges with the men's Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt. Turbine Potsdam remains as one of the last pure women's football clubs . The club leaders want to maintain this unique selling point, but they too have recognized that it will be difficult to survive on its own.

The cooperation with Hertha BSC announced on Tuesday should help to strengthen the traditional club of the Havel. And Sofian Chahed is an important hinge. Not just between Hertha and Turbine, but between men's and women's football. Because the latter, despite its success and professionalization, is still fighting for its equal perception and reward. The coaching mission of an ex-professional is a strong offensive sign.
