US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he was studying the possibility of banning the Chinese application TikTok, in the context of strong tensions between Washington and Beijing. "It is a huge market," he said, without giving further details but simply indicating that it was "one of the many options" under study.

Trump's statements echo that of Mike Pompeo, American diplomat, who said that Washington was examining the ban of several Chinese applications, including TikTok, on background suspicion of spying. The platform has often had to defend itself from its links with China. "It is headed by an American CEO, with hundreds of employees and executives (...) here in the United States," said a spokesman for the group quoted by the Bloomberg agency. "We have never provided user data to the Chinese government and we would not do so if asked to," he added.
