Mr Ward's top-of-the-range Audi SQ5 was found with several scratches and bumps but, contrary to our initial report suggesting it had been completely stripped, raiders had attempted to yank out the tracking device.

"The reason why they dumped it is to see if it had a tracker on it," added Mr Ward, a local undertaker.

"They would have waited to see if someone would have picked it up. Police told us they'd have come back to pick it up at some stage.

"The coppers told me it didn't look good inside. I had to open the car for them from the app on my phone while they were there.

"They'd had a go at ripping the tracker out but they'd never have found it as it's embedded in the car during manufacturing."

Knew exactly what they wanted

Mr Ward says his Audi SQ5 is still driveable but he'll now be getting rid of it.

"They just wanted that car and would have stopped at nothing. I genuinely believe that. I don't know what we'd have done if they come storming in and we were in the house."
