Borini to cost €15m amid Palace links Crystal Palace will need to pay at least €15 million to lure Fabio Borini away from AC Milan, according to a report from Calciomercato. The Eagles were linked with a possible move for the former Liverpool striker earlier on Sunday, and other claims from Italy indicate that they will not be able to recruit him in a cut-price deal. Borini was involved 20 times in Serie A fixtures for Milan last season but was hardly productive in front of goal, netting just twice and assisting his teammates only once.

Inappropriate housing for an ageing population could cost the NHS £1billion per year by 2041, according to a report out today.

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) said a failure to plan for an older generation is putting huge strain on the public purse, while a quarter of the English population will be aged over 60 within five years.

RIBA called on the Government to tackle this ‘hidden’ housing crisis by building well-designed, purpose built homes to enable people to play a more active role in their communities as they age.

"Prioritising age-friendly design not only benefits the over 55s. It is central to tackling the wider housing crisis. Local authorities have largely ignored this need and opportunity, focusing instead on basic, short-term solutions. This is England’s hidden housing crisis. We must encourage more innovation and plan properly for the future.

Housing demand outstrips supply

RIBA's report - A home for the ages: Planning for the future through age-friendly design - found the cost to the NHS of inappropriate housing for people over-55 is projected to reach £1billion per year by 2041 in first year treatment alone and a quarter of over 55s are currently considering moving home, but over half feel that the housing options available are inadequate, while demand for age-friendly housing outstrips supply.

The report recommended ‘mainstreaming’ age-friendly design so all new-build housing is accessible and adaptable. It also said barriers in the planning system that restrict the delivery of age-friendly homes should be removed.
