A body has been found during the search for a British schoolgirl who went missing from a resort while on a family holiday in Malaysia.

Nora Quoirin, who has learning and developmental disabilities disappeared from the resort about 40 miles south of Kuala Lumpur where she was staying with her parents, Meabh and Sebastien, an Irish-French couple, and her younger brother and sister.

While police have not officially confirmed the body is Nora, police sources say human remains have been found and that no other missing people have been reported in that area.

On Tuesday a spokesman for the Lucie Blackman Trust which is handling media enquiries for the family said the body is “likely” to be that Nora.

NORA Quoirin ’s parents sobbed as they thanked search teams who have been hunting for their missing daughter for almost a week after she vanished into the Malaysian jungle. Nora Quoirin , 15, was reported missing from a resort in Malaysia on SundayCredit: www.lbtrust.org.

The 15-year-old, from London, disappeared from the Dusun forest eco-resort, in southern Negeri Sembilan state. A Belfast-based company had offered a £10,000 reward for information about the missing teenager.

A window, which reportedly can only be opened from the inside of their apartment, was found wide open on the morning she went missing.

Nora’s parents were adamant that they had “no reason to believe she has wandered off and is lost” and insisted she had been abducted – putting them at odds with the local police.

But while police have refused to rule out a “criminal element”, they maintain that no signs of foul play have been found.

Negeri Sembilan police chief Mohamad Mat Yusop told reporters on August 6, he believed Nora had climbed out of a window.

Elite commandos have been sent to search for 15-year-old British Schoolgirl Nora Quoirin , who went missing on holiday in Malaysia on Sunday. Search efforts have been ramped up as a team of 200 scour the hilly jungle around Dusun forest eco-resort in southern Negeri Sembilan state.

Up to 350 people were taking part in the search for Nora, including officers from British, Irish and French police forces, and a Malaysian shaman who was filmed performing rituals and crying in the forest surrounding the family’s holiday apartment.

Shortly before the discovery of the body, Nora’s mother told the media: “Nora is our first child. She has been vulnerable since the day she was born. She is so precious to us and our hearts are breaking, We are appealing to anyone who has information about Nora to help us to find her.”

Nora was born with holoprosencephaly, meaning that she has a smaller brain and has spent much of her young life in hospital.

Malaysian police will play a voice recording of Nora Quoirin's mother over loudspeakers as they search for the missing British teenager. Superintendent Mohd Nor Marzukee Bin Besar also said 252 people are now involved in the search for Nora. A helicopter, drones and dogs are also being used to trace the 15-year-old who has been missing since Sunday. The police chief said: "We have had a long discussion with the family to determine who Nora has the closest relationship to and whose voice she would respond strongly to. "We have decided to make a recording and use a loudspeaker.
