Tributes have been paid to a “one in a million” teenager that died after he was struck by a van in Glasgow.

Emergency services rushed to in the east end of the city at 6:45am on Sunday after he and another man were hit by a van.

Paramedics treated the 18-year-old at the scene by he was pronounced dead shortly after.

He has been named locally as Liam Hendry.

Many of his friends have taken to social media to pay tribute to the teen.

Courtney Mack said: “Heartbroken for everybody who’s woke up this morning to find they've lost our Liam Hendry. Rest in peace buddy, one in a million.”

A second man is fighting for his life after he was rushed to Glasgow’s Royal Infirmary after the incident.

The 20-year-old has been described as being in a critical condition by medical staff.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Around 6.45am on Sunday, September 29, an 18-year-old man was struck by a van in Barrowfield Street, Glasgow.

“He was treated by paramedics but died at the scene.

“A second man, 20, has also been seriously injured. He has been taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary where his condition has been described by medical staff as critical.

“Extensive enquiries, which are at a very early stage, to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing.”

Glasgow airport 'evacuated' as emergency services rush to 'ongoing incident' .
Local reports say passengers have been evacuated from the international area with emergency services attending an aircraft. Around 20 firefighters are believed to be at the scene. A statement from Glasgow airport said: “At approximately 10am, the airport fire service attended an arriving KLM flight in response to concerns raised over a piece of cargo. Enquiries are ongoing to determine the content of the package and the aircraft has been cordoned off." Police Scotland were unable to provide any information on the incident.
