Tory Brexiteer Mark Francois was left exasperated on Wednesday morning after an anti-Brexit protester derailed more than one of his broadcast interviews in Westminster, causing the MP to exclaim: "If we leave, it will be delightful that this idiot will shut up."

The MP and member of the European Research Group (ERG) of Conservative MPs gave a series of interviews to journalists keen to know if the grouping would lend its support to Boris Johnson's Brexit deal.

Mr Johnson is trying to get a deal finalised with the bloc so it can be approved by EU leaders at a summit on Thursday and Friday before being voted on in the Commons  on Saturday.

"Not really. We have had...." Mr Francois started to tell the BBC presenter, before being interrupted by the now-famous protestor, who was shouting "Stop Brexit!" at the top of his lungs.

The Brexiteer allowed Mr Bray to finish before remarking: "If we leave, it will be delightful that this idiot will shut up."

The presenter told him: "He's exercising his democratic right, I appreciate it makes it very difficult to do an interview."

As Mr Bray continued shouting, Mr Francois said: "We had a meeting yesterday at Number 10, We've got another meeting later this afternoon.

"The ERG met last night, we normally meet on a Tuesday evening, that's usual. And we agreed at that meeting that if there is a deal, and we're going to have in effect, meaningful vote four on Saturday, then the ERG will meet that morning.

'Look into their hearts'

"The officers will make a recommendation to the ERG on whether or not to support the deal," he added.

"Once we've read the details we'll debate it and then it will be up to every individual member of the ERG, as it were, to look into their hearts and decide what's best for their country but we, the officers, will give a lead."

Pro- and anti-Brexit protestors frequently attempt to disrupt the broadcast media that congregate on College Green outside the Palace of Westminister.

Footage from Sky News showed Mr Francois facing the same barrage of noise during a previous interview.
