Frustrated commuters were filmed pulling an Extinction Rebellion protester from the top of a Tube train this morning, after activists disrupted the busy east London service.

Video of the incident reveals protesters stood atop of a train at Canning Town station, holding a sign that reads "Business as usual = Death".

Hundreds of angry commuters could be seen shouting at the activists to get down, while others hurled objects at them.

A member of TfL staff appears to intervene to stop people from attacking the male protester.

There are delays on the Jubilee line and Docklands Light Railway following the incident.

Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, has criticised the Tube protests, calling them "counterproductive".

In a statement this morning, he said: "I strongly condemn the Extinction Rebellion protesters who have targeted the London Underground and DLR this morning.

"This illegal action is extremely dangerous, counterproductive and is causing unacceptable disruption to Londoners who use public transport to get to work.

The official Extinction Rebellion facebook page live streamed the event, writing: "Today Extinction Rebellion activists issued an urgent plea: ‘GOVERNMENT PLEASE TELL THE TRUTH on the Climate and Ecological Emergency. We are at the end of the business as usual line, it is time to stop harming the world in which we live and begin repairing".

They confirmed Extinction Rebellion affinity groups were also protesting at Shadwell on the DLR, with people glued-on to the top of the train and the side in order to prevent it from running.

British Transport Police Assistant Chief Constable Sean O'Callaghan said they were working alongside partners in London to keep disruption to a minimum.

He added: “We are really disappointed that [Extinction Rebelion] have since announced fresh action on the London Underground network. The Tube and rail networks are one of the greenest transport methods in London, any action goes against what they campaign for and will only cause misery for London’s commuters.

“In addition to this, we’ve made it clear to Extinction Rebellion that disrupting Tube services could create a dangerous scenario where some trains are stuck within tunnels with hundreds of passengers on board. Likewise, trespassing or obstructing Tube services could create a serious hazard to protestors."

They warned that protesters who unlawfully disrupt the network could be arrested for obstructing the railway, an offence which could lead to imprisonment.

The British Transport Police have announced they are investigating the commuters whopulled Extinction Rebellion protesters from the roof of a tube trainearlier this week. Officers from the BTP said they are looking to speak to a number of tube passengers over the “vigilante-style attack” at Canning Town station which saw James Mee, 35, and Mark Ovland, 36, dragged off a Jubilee Line train. Eight XR protesters were arrested as a result of the action but British Transport Police have now confirmed that the commuters involved are also being investigated - MailOnline reports.
