Using pretty much an all-Irish cast, it aims to provide a more authentic depiction of modern Irish life.

The title of one of the books which the series draws on is “Into the Woods”, a reference to the place where the murder victims are found, as well as an old English phrase meaning to go insane.

The woods in question are Northern Ireland's Tollymore Forest.

Northern Ireland's only remaining Victorian era prison has been converted into a tourist attraction that provides a whole variety of tours which explore both its torrid history and the various paranormal legends swirling around it.

Built over 150 years ago, the gaol saw some 25,000 prisoners tramp through it during the time it was active.

Known as “The Crum”, it was one of the main sights used to hold Republican and Loyalist prisoners during The Troubles, many of whom were held without trial.

With 17 men having been executed within its walls, it's no surprise that The Crum has also been said to harbour restless spirits.

Ards Community Hospital

There are certain locales that all hard-boiled crime procedurals rely on: an office for the case to be worked over; a bar for after-hours rendezvous; and a morgue.

To crack a murder case, the detectives will usually have to make at least one trip to the chilly room filled with dead people, and Dublin Murders is no exception.

For all its cadaver -adjacent scenes, the show will call on the Ards Community Hospital in Newtownards to provide the setting.

Reports suggest that Drumaness has been used to roll back the years and bring the show's 80s timeline to life.

Locals reported spying old-fashioned Garda cars in the area, no doubt hot on the trail of the murder case, which comes to torment detectives decades later.

Period details like Green post boxes and retro Mr.Whippy ice cream fans were also seen, and several homes were reportedly redecorated in vintage style.

The former First Trust Bank on Custom House Square in Belfast's city centre has been transformed into a Garda Station.

The same building was used in BBC2's 2016 drama, Paula, once again posing as a Republic of Ireland-based police headquarters.

Talbot Road has also been used for a scene in which a woman is attacked and dragged away by two individuals.
