A Northern Irish couple were injured after a bus overturned in France on Sunday morning.

The pair were among 33 people injured in the crash in Northern France.

Four were seriously injured and 29 were wounded in the crash on the A1 motorway at the exit near Amiens.

The FlixBus coach reportedly skidded in the wind and rain, smashed into a guardrail as it took an exit and rolled over on to its side.

The Northern Irish pair were couple Jamie Kerr and Gemma Given who are both 20.

They were treated in hospital for head and hand injuries.

Jamie’s father John told the BBC: “It was a pretty traumatic end to a Halloween weekend.”

He added: “They’ll learn a lot from all of this but I’m expecting an emotional response when they get home and it all hits them.”

The bus company, FlixBus, said that they are investigating the cause of the crash.

A spokesman said: “FlixBus is in close contact with the relevant authorities in order to determine the exact cause of the accident and to ensure all passengers receive appropriate support.

“An emergency phone number is available for the passengers and their relatives.”
