Ronan and Christopher Hughes are wanted on suspicion of manslaughter and people trafficking. Speaking in Belfast, Essex Police said they had spoken to Ronan by phone. " Ronan and Christopher , hand yourselves in," said Det Ch Insp Daniel Stoten, who is leading the investigation.

Gardai have launched a series of raids this morning targeting two Irish brothers wanted in connection with the manslaughter of 39 Vietnamese migrants.

The Criminal Assets Bureau (CAB) backed up by the heavily-armed Emergency Response Unit (ERU) swooped on addresses in Co Monaghan.

Sources said properties allegedly linked to Ronan Hughes, 40, and his 34-year-old brother Christopher were searched, reports Irish Mirror.

Other raids, which are linked to the probe into the horror deaths of the migrants found in a lorry in Essex, England, last month are ongoing.

The fugitive brothers are wanted on suspicion of manslaughter and people trafficking.

They have links to South Armagh and North Monaghan.

Detectives in Essex urged the brothers, now in hiding, to hand themselves in after the bodies of eight women and 31 men were found in a lorry on Oct 23.

Luxury jeeps, cash and documents were seized this morning in the huge garda crackdown on smuggling along the border.

The CAB, backed up by the Emergency Response Unit (ERU), targeted haulage companies and their finances.

Four top-of-the-srange SUVS have been seized along with financial records and cash in euro, sterling and dollars.

The vehicles seized include a 192-reg X5 BMW M Sport, a 2016 X5 BMW, a 2014 VW Transporter Crew Cab 2.8 litre and a Mitsubishi Shogun.

“That investigation has intensified over the past two weeks.

“As part of the operation the Bureau detained a Northern Ireland Registered Tractor Unit and Curtain Sider Trailer at Dublin Port on Tuesday last.

Searches were carried out at ten separate sites, including seven homes and three yards.
