A Met Office warning has been issued for Northern Ireland this weekend with flooding likely to cause disruption.

The rain has been on and off over the past few days, but from 5am on Saturday morning, the Met Office has a yellow warning in place for heavy showers.

It comes into effect from 5am on Saturday, November 9, until 8pm and communities and businesses have been advised to prepare for the conditions.

A Met Office forecaster said that Saturday will see the most persistent rain across Antrim and Down.

Northern Ireland faces a weather warning for heavy rain , just days after being hit by stormy winds caused by ex-Hurricane Ophelia. Flooding is likely and "a few properties or businesses could also be affected", it added. The yellow warning , which means be aware, has been issued for all six counties.

He said: "Heavy rain may cause disruption from flooding and delays or cancellations to train and bus services are possible.

"Spray flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures and there is a small chance that some communities become cut off by flooded roads.

"There is [also] a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings.

"Sunday will be cold, dry and settled with pleasant sunshine. Turning wet and windy later then remaining unsettled for Monday and Tuesday with scattered, blustery and occasionally wintry showers."
