Following a disastrous interview on BBC’s Newsnight about his long term friendship with Jeffrey Epstein, new allegations emerged on Monday that Prince Andrew used the n-word during a 2012 meeting with political aide Rohan Silva.

Had the infant Prince Charles been a girl, then Andrew would be our future king and this would be a constitutional crisis. Parents cannot sack their children. That is the immense power of ordinary families, but the fatal weakness of dynasties and, stupidly, the Duke of York has exposed it.

Prince Andrew faces more disgrace as business backers leave

Prince Andrew faces more disgrace as business backers leave LONDON (AP) — Britain’s Prince Andrew faced further disgrace Tuesday as charitable partners and educational institutions began to distance themselves from him amid unfavorable fallout from an interview on his friendship with sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Like most senior members of the royal family, Andrew is patron for charities and other civic endeavors, lending his name and the backing of the monarchy to the good works of all manner of institutions. But supporters of undertakings connected to Andrew are now reconsidering whether they want to be associated with him after his effort to draw a line under the Epstein scandal backfired so disastrously.

Prince Andrew Could Be ‘Canceled’ Under King Charles

Prince Andrew Could Be ‘Canceled’ Under King Charles Prince Andrew has always been his mother’s favorite child, and the defiant messaging from Buckingham Palace on Monday—as the dust settled on Andrew’s disastrous BBC interview, and an allegation was made that he had used the n-word in a meeting with a Foreign Office official—was that he retained the full confidence of the monarch. A senior royal source told the Evening Standard: “His Royal Highness has the backing of the Queen and his close family, they believe in him totally and think he has shown strength for telling the truth and admitting errors he has made. There is no question of him being ordered to reduce his duties. He wants to get on with his job. He has told the truth, in detail.

Royal Family plans cuts

The curtailing of the Prince’s role within his own family - which reportedly followed discussions between the Queen and Prince Charles - can be seen within the context of how the Firm is evolving as well as the immediate anger over Epstein.

To see why, it is useful to step back to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012 and picture the Mall thronging with a crowd of flag-waving royal fans waiting for the ranks of British royalty to appear on the Buckingham Palace balcony.

Prince Andrew 's public life is over for now. The statement says the withdrawal is "for the foreseeable future ". But it's hard to see what will bring him back. But right now the humiliation is complete. Born into the public eye, Prince Andrew has had to retreat into a private life. And the monarchy is shaken.

And Prince Charles has already angered his brother Andrew by insisting on the withdrawal of Royal protection for Eugenie and Beatrice. If we want to preserve the monarchy , it has to change. The behaviour of Prince Andrew should be the cue for a new leaner approach. It used to be common to

When the Queen then emerged into the sunlight with only the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and Prince Harry, it may have caused some royal watchers to spit out their Earl Grey tea.

While the Duke of Edinburgh’s absence was due to a bladder infection, there were no dukes or earls of York, Wessex or Kent on show either.

The Telegraph later praised “rationalised structure of Windsor plc” and added: “Bloated royal families are fine when you run a quarter of the world... not so good when you are in charge of a diminished, austere Britain, grappling with recession in the early 21st century.”

Fast forward to 2017 and the Daily Mail was applauding how the Windsors had put on “a magnificent four-generation show of strength just when the country needs them” as a bevy of Royals including not only Prince Andrew but also Flora Ogily - the 56th in line to the throne - appeared on the famous balcony for the Trooping of the Colour.

There is, though, a deeper rift reported between the Yorks and the rest of the family, with claims that Prince Andrew wrote a personal letter to the Queen in 2016 to ask that his daughters, the “spare” princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, who receive no public funds as they are not “working royals”, be granted cash from the taxpayer-funded Sovereign Grant.

i has also reported that Prince Charles had a hand in the Queen’s decision to exclude the sisters as he wants a smaller, more cost-effective monarchy and will seek to streamline the Royal Family when he ascends the throne.

Other royal families are already tightening their belts. In Sweden, King Carl XVI Gustaf removed five of his grandchildren from the royal household earlier this month in a move that was widely welcomed by Swedes.

It means that while the children of Princess Madeleine and Prince Carl Philip will keep their titles, they are no longer entitled to some of the benefits given to Swedish royals including taxpayer funds.

Princess Madeleine, the Swedish king’s youngest daughter, who is mother to three of the five children, wrote on Instagram that it would mean they “now have a greater opportunity to shape their own lives”.

If Andrew was to disappear from the Royal stage in the wake of the Epstein saga, he would not be the first to fade into obscurity.

When the Queen’s aunt Princess Alice, the Duchess of Gloucester, died in her sleep in 2004 was known as the “forgotten royal” because her last years were spent in seclusion.

Once a keen skier and water-colourist who once visited Afghanistan disguised in a coat and cap died at Kensington Palace. Her son, the Duke of Gloucester remains an active member of the family, recently carrying out a cultural visit to a carpet weaving museum in Morocco.

It is a sign that members of the Firm do not have to be making headlines to get jobs done. Another under-the-radar Royal, Prince Edward, clocked up 463 engagements last year, to Prince Andrew’s 394.

The annual list of outings is regularly topped by Prince Anne, who carried out 518 duties last year, closely followed by Prince Charles with 507, among the 3,793 engagements carried out by 15 Royals.

There are suggestions that Prince Andrew, who has faced pressure to resign patronages as BT and National Ballet trustees joined the calls for him to step down, could soon be back on the road with aides reportedly saying they believe he would only step down from public duties “for a few months while we sought this mess out”.

But with news today that Andrew will step down from Pitch@Palace, which is to be renamed simply as “Pitch” and run by his former private secretary Amanda Thirsk, those entrepreneurs in Bahrain could be waiting for an appearance from the Duke for some time yet.
