Crews were called around 6:45pm to a "well developed fire" beside the River Clyde.
Around 60 fire fighters are on the scene.
Police have confirmed there are no reported casualties.
Pictures show flames protruding from the roof of the building.
A woman who lives in the building said: "I am feeling absolutely gutted that this has happened, especially at this time of year.
"I have been gutted with fire before and I know how it was then, [I was] out for so long.
"This has been my dream house for 17 years after I got divorced, and I just don't know how I will go from here."

Firefighters are tackling a major blaze at a block of flats in Glasgow. Eyewitnesses said at least seven fire engines and a command vehicle were at the scene at Lancefield Quay , on the north bank of the Clyde.
A number of roads in the surrounding area have been cordoned off.
Glasgow City Council said the road was closed between Hydepark Street and Elliot Street.
A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue service said: "We are currently in attendance at a well developed fire at Glasgow's Lancefield Quay.
"We have mobilised a number of fire appliances to the scene, where firefighters currently remain working to extinguish the fire."
