A man was hospitalised on Saturday after an elderly driver ploughed his car through the window of a Tesco store packed with Christmas shoppers.

Emergency services rushed to the Princess Alice Drive retail park, in Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands at around 11am.

Several customers sustained minor injuries as the driver, believed to be in his 80s, reversed through the window of the store’s cafe.

A 20-year-old man fell unconscious and was taken to hospital but no-one else was seriously hurt.

A West Midlands Police spokesman said: “Police were alerted just before 11am today (14 Dec) after a vehicle crashed through a window of the café at Tesco on Princess Alice Drive retail park in Sutton Coldfield.
