A section of Scotland's deadliest road has been closed following a serious two-car crash.

The A9, between Perth and Inverness, is currently shut in both directions from Carrbridge to the A95 junction with North Aviemore.

Fire, paramedics and cops were all called to the smash at around 2.30pm today.

It is not if anyone has been injured following the incident.

As a result of the smash cops have put a 19-mile diversion in place.

The A9 was named Scotland's deadliest road in October 2019.

Statistics revealed there was a crash causing a casualty on the A9 every three days during 2018.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "We were reported to a two-vehicle crash on the A9 north of Granish at around 2.30pm on Sunday, January 19 2020.

"Emergency services are in attendance and the road is closed in both directions between the Garnish and Carrbridge junctions."

A Traffic Scotland statement on the diversion read: "Northbound, turn right at Granish onto A95 and follow the road until Dulnain Bridge – Turn Left onto A938 and continue until the A9 junction.

"Southbound, turn left at A938 junction onto A938 and follow the road until Dulnain Bridge – Turn right onto the A95 and continue until the A9 junction at Granish."

The Scottish Ambulance Service has been contacted for comment.
