A wife who stabbed her husband to death following a "trivial row” at their home has been jailed for life.

Deborah Carroll, 53, stabbed her partner John, 52, in the chest as he sat on a chair in the kitchen of their property in Selly Oak, Birmingham.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Alwold Court, Barnes Hill, at around 1am on April, 2019.

Mr Carroll was rushed to hospital where he died later that day after suffering a collapsed lung.

His wife was charged with murder and was found guilty of the offence following a two week trial at Birmingham Crown Court.

On Friday she was jailed for life, with a minimum term of 10 years to be served before being considered for release.

The court heard how the couple had argued after John had been out with a friend the previous afternoon and carried on drinking when he returned home.

John’s friend witnessed the attack and told hot the row erupted over something trivial before Carroll stabbed her husband without warning with a kitchen knife.

Detective Inspector Hannah Whitehouse, of West Midlands Police, said: “This is a very tragic case where an alcohol-fuelled domestic dispute got out of hand and resulted in a violent attack leaving Mr Carroll with fatal injuries.

“Our thoughts remain with John’s family."

Attacks bring terror to streets of Britain .
There have been several major incidents in recent years.The latest saw the death of a man who was shot by armed police officers in Streatham, south London, on Sunday, with the Metropolitan Police declaring it as a “terrorist-related” incident.
