A host of British celebrities have paid tribute to Kobe Bryant after news of his death was announced.

The basketball legend was among nine people killed in a helicopter crash yesterday(January 26) including his 13-year-old daughter Gianna.

The 41-year-old had been travelling in a private helicopter in California when it reportedly came down and burst into flames at Calabasas, north west of Los Angeles.

A five-time NBA champion, Bryant is considered one of the greatest basketball players of all time and spent his entire 20-year career playing for the LA Lakers.

The news has also led celebrities across the world, and in the UK including TV presenter and former sportsman Gary Lineker, to pay respect to Bryant and those on-board.

The tragic news also left it's mark on several Welsh celebrities, including Catherine Zeta Jones - who was once neighbours with Bryant.

She commented: "RIP Kobe. 24 years ago, ironically, Kobe was my next door neighbor in Pacific Palisades in LA. Both young and ambitious.

Bryant tweeted in his final post on social media. She said the news was "tragic" and is an "unimaginable loss to all."

Another Welsh star who responded to Bryant's passing was Amber Davies, with the Denbigh-raised performer shocked by the news.

The Love Island winner shared posts about the LA Lakers player's sudden death and expressed her own thoughts in a separate tweet.

In the post to her 399,000 followers, the 23-year-old said last night: "Kobe Bryant, such a legend, I am in utter shock. RIP."

His sudden death has however also led to controversy, with one Washington Post journalist reportedly suspended after sharing an article about previous allegations of sexual assault against the sports star.

The claim dates back to 2003, when a 19-year-old woman accused Bryant of sexual assault - with the basketball player denying the allegation and claiming they had consensual.

The case was subsequently dropped after the accuser refused to testify in court, with many of social media criticising the journalist's decision to bring up in the incident immediately following his death.

Bryant has however been reportedly remembered at basketball games across the US, who held moments of silence for the star.

Tribute was also paid at the Grammy Awards last night, which was held at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles - the home of the Lakers.
