Wales will be hit with the heaviest rainfall during Storm Dennis.

The Met Office warns that the storm will bring major bouts of bad weather, with gusts of hurricane-force winds, flooding and travel disruption from Saturday to Monday.

Today the Met Office upgraded the previous yellow weather warnings, with several amber alerts across England and Wales.

Up to 100mm of rainfall is expected to fall in Wales on higher grounds, adding to current water levels and triggering risk of flooding.

In addition, “danger to life” weather warnings of rain and wind are in place. The Met Office warns to expect more wind and rain next week.

According to the forecast, “gusts of 50mph are expected inland, while around exposed coasts gusts of up to 70 mph”.

A spokesperson from the Met Office said: “A lot of wet weather is expected to fall in Wales, following on from the wet weather last weekend and throughout the week from Storm Ciara.

“This rainfall will be adding to the current water levels and will bring a risk of flooding.

“There is the potential for up to 100mm of rain to fall in Wales on higher grounds and by water sources.”

Meteorologist Aidan McGivern from the Met Office said: “Rain is of particular concern.

“Wales gets the wettest weather … with risks of flooding because of persistent and hardness of the rainfall Saturday to Sunday.

“Winds will still be strong across the country with gusts on exposed coasts of up 70 mph which could cause disruption.

“Showers and snowfall are expected to continue through to the end of next week.”
