An Easyjet flight has had to return to Belfast International Airport over an "unusual strong smell" at the rear of the cabin.

The Venice-bound 9.15am flight appeared to reach the Isle of Man on its way to Venice before heading back to the airport where engineers were called in.

A passenger, who asked not to be named, told Belfast Live everyone on the flight was sent back to the terminal to wait for updates and that the flight was cancelled around 11am.

He told Belfast Live a "smell was gas was reported".

"It was smelt by passengers in row 23, one of the air hostesses also smelt it and raised the alarm," the dad added.

your strong smell of fuel was in side the car , under the hood . ? now check to see if here is any gas leak under the hood --- gas line , filter. check under the car for any leak , or by the gas tank . it might be just sweating, make a good check , re ply me what you find.

Anyone know why the house would smell of gas when the fire was on/burning???? We have a gas fire in the living room and after being out for a few hours (leaving fire on) we returned to the house smelling of gas , the fire was still burning but it stunk so I turned it off immediately.

"Unfortunately due to aircraft availability, we have been required to delay the flight until tomorrow and so we are doing everything possible to minimise the impact of the disruption for our customers including providing hotel rooms and meals for passengers who require them.

"The safety of our passengers and crew is our highest priority and we would like to thank passengers for their patience and understanding and apologise for any inconvenience caused."
