A 54-year-old man has died in a motorbike accident near a busy Cardiff roundabout.

Police said the motorbike was the only vehicle involved in the crash on the A4232 Central Link road just before the Queensgate Roundabout in Cardiff Bay.

It happened around 6pm on Thursday.

A South Wales Police spokesman said the crash involved a black Aprilia motorcycle ridden by a 54 year-old man from the Grangetown area.

He added: "The motorcyclist was declared deceased at scene and his family is being supported by a specially trained liaison officer."

Officers also thanked members of the public who helped at scene and said people had been patient during the road closures.

Officers would like to speak to anyone who may witnessed the incident or saw the vehicle involved prior to the collision.
