For several weeks, the AstraZeneca vaccine has been less and less used in the vaccination campaign in France. From now on, this vaccine represents less than 0.5% of the first doses administered each day.

The delay, the defiance, the age limit ... More and more doses of AstraZeneca vaccine remain today in the fridge. The AstraZeneca vaccine represents only 0.3% of the first doses injected daily, according to the latest data from Public Health France . Yet this share was 50% at the beginning of March. Currently, barely 2,000 people receive their first dose of anti-Covid vaccine with AstraZeneca.

The atmosphere is stretched between the European Union and the AstraZeneca pharmaceutical giant. For the moment, there is no contract renewal for deliveries after June. Brussels continued the group in justice in particular for the problems of deliveries . The judgment will be rendered within a month.

What to do unused doses?

So where are nearly 4 million doses unused? A part is in stock in fridges for the second injections. Another option to dispose of these doses would be to deliver some of the countries less developed via the COVAX device, an initiative aimed at ensuring equitable access to CVIV-19 vaccination in 200 countries.

The Ministry of the Economy announced May 25 unlock up to 1.5 million doses AstraZeneca to contribute to this device, by the end of this month of June, against 500,000 previously planned.
