Senegal has detected its first three cases of the Omicron coronavirus variant at Travelers who were preparing to go to African countries, announced research laboratories.

A first case was detected Friday at a 58-year-old man arrived in Senegal on 22 November by a flight from a country of the subregion, according to a statement released Saturday night by the Institute of Health Research, epidemiological monitoring and training (IRESSF).

The man had been vaccinated on April 13 with Astrazeneca and June 25 with Pfizer, said the Institute. "He stayed at Dakar in a hotel and participated in a demonstration that gathered nearly 300 people from several nationalities. The event took place from 24 to 25 November," adds the press release.
